In April 2026, Washburn University convened its inaugural Family Impact Seminar to examine the needs of Kansas’ workforce through the lens of family functioning and well-being. Thirty-three participants representing policy, research, professional, and student perspectives considered workers’ needs across the lifespan—from young adults balancing caregiving responsibilities to career advancement, aging, and retirement. This brief highlights insights from the seminar on how workplace policies and legislation can affect family stability, relationships, and responsibilities, and identifies actionable opportunities to create more family-friendly workplaces.
